Planning lighting for a powder room you would think is easy, but it is where I see a lot of mistakes.

Make sure you have enough light. People like to make their powder room special and sometimes dark and dramatic. A dark room will suck up a lot of light, therefore you need more fixtures. I suggest a ceiling fixture that fits your style and sconces on either side of a mirror. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, you can still make mistakes here if you are not careful. Pick out your sconces and mirror before you have the electrician put in the boxes. Some sconces connect to the electrical box near the top of the sconce and some at middle or bottom. As you might guess this will affect the height of your sconce.

As for the ceiling fixture you not only have to watch the the width of the fixture, you also have to make sure you have the right depth for your ceiling height. Fixtures for your powder room come flush mount (fits tight to the ceiling), semi-flush mount (a space between the globe and the ceiling) and hanging.

Just remember that good planning leads to fewer costly mistakes.
