3 ways to find quality furniture in and avoid costly mistakes

Finding quality furniture in Michigan can be difficult.

There are not as many furniture stores today because it is hard for a brick and mortar store to compete with the internet. People want the best price and I can't blame them, but they also want to make sure what they are buying is the right product for them (avoid the costly mistakes). Buying on the internet might not be the best way to buy your furniture.

Second choice might be making a trip to North Carolina and buying from one of the large furniture stores near the furniture market. These furniture stores offer good prices and have large selections. If you decide to purchase this way then you must factor in the cost of your trip and the fact that you have to make quick decisions. It may sound like you are buying direct from the furniture market but most of these are just furniture stores located near the furniture market. There are also clearance stores that have market showroom floor samples and discontinued close outs. One of the big advantages in buying from these stores was that you did not have to pay sales tax, but now most states require you to pay sales tax. The furniture market  is open to furniture retailers and interior designers for one week in the spring and one week in the fall.

A third choice is to buy from an interior designer who buys direct from the manufactures (make sure you find a professional interior designer that truly understands the furniture industry). Since there are not as many furniture stores, manufactures have been turning to professional interior design firms to represent their products. An interior design firm does not have as big an overhead as a furniture store, therefore they can offer good prices. Many also have specialty lines that offer unique items that are only available through interior design firms. Needless to say an experienced interior designer can help you avoid the costly mistakes.

Keep in mind that you will have your furniture a long time, so you will want to make good decisions.
