What are the most important traits to look for when deciding on a luxury interior designer?

Luxury design can be traditional or contemporary.

Experience

You don't start off in the design field by doing luxury interior design. You must first acquire some experience creating high end looks. You must know how to work with many different clients and be able to deliver the home of their dreams. The use of psychology is important in the design field. You need to ask the right questions to each client to draw out their wants and needs. That way the designer will be able to create the perfect luxury environment for their client's home.

Knowledge

Luxury interior designers must have the knowledge of so many things. They must know about space planning, architectural design, lighting, high end furniture, custom window covering, artwork, custom rugs, fabrics, accessories, flooring, wall treatments and custom cabinets. They must also be able to work with budgets and contracts.

Talent

Look to see if they are a professional member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). Professional members have passed a long and difficult exam. You should also look at their portfolio to see if you like their work. Look to see if they do many different looks or does everybody get what the designer likes. It is a good idea to look at their client reviews to see how happy their past clients were.

Access to High End Home Furnishings

Luxury interior designers should have access to high end furniture and custom home furnishing products. They should have years of experience going to the best high end home furnishing markets. The best interior designers will spend lots of time combing the large markets looking for the perfect item for their client. They also must know about quality and construction so they can deliver the best product to the client.

Ability to Create Unique Environments for each Client

High end interior design is not about the designer; it is about the home owner. The designer must be able to create many different looks based on the information gained from interviewing the client and getting to know them and their wants, needs and desires.

As you can see luxury interior design is a very complicated job and it not only takes all these traits, it also takes an individual who loves what they are doing.
